ARTIST BIO

Nik West—hailed by Prince as a force in modern funk, celebrated for her collaborations with Quincy Jones, and known for opening shows for Lenny Kravitz (2024), George Clinton (2019), and Joss Stone (2024)—brings all of her experience, depth, and signature vocal-and-bass magic into this record. It’s a track only she could deliver: honest, intimate, and layered with purpose.

Nik is a powerhouse bassist, vocalist, and songwriter celebrated for her electrifying stage presence, thunderous grooves, and unmistakable look—complete with her signature mohawk shaped like a bass clef. With a career that includes collaborations with icons like Prince, Quincy Jones, John Mayer, and Dave Stewart (Eurythmics), she has carved out her own genre-defying lane by blending funk, rock, and soul.

Her viral vocal-and-bass cover of Back in Black by AC/DC broke the internet and caught the attention of rock royalty—including Steven Tyler and Lenny Kravitz, who became instant fans.

West’s musical journey began in her hometown, Phoenix, AZ. Taught rhythm guitar at age 13 by her father—an accomplished guitarist—she grew up in a musical household, forming her first band with her sisters (on keys, drums, violin, and guitar) and older brother. Though she started on guitar, everything changed in high school when she heard Michael Jackson’s “Wanna Be Startin Somethin”. That moment led her to the bass—and she never looked back.

Outside of music, West excelled in both academics and athletics. A successful runway and print model, she was also a straight-A student and a state record-holding track and field athlete. She’s so passionate about calculus that she even created a blog dedicated to it. Despite multiple scholarship offers for her academic and athletic achievements, West chose music.

While working on her debut album Just In The Nik Of Time, Dave Stewart was captivated by her soulful voice and quickly invited her to collaborate. Within days, they were performing to sold-out crowds in Los Angeles. She also began working alongside Stewart and Grammy- winning producer Glen Ballard (Alanis Morissette, George Strait, Michael Jackson).

At just 29, West became the first Black woman to compose music for ESPN—making history and continuing to break barriers in an often slow-to-change industry. She’s recorded and performed with legends including Prince, Quincy Jones, John Mayer, Santana, Larry Graham, Macy Gray, Esperanza Spalding, Orianthi, and Bootsy Collins.

“Nik West is definitely bringing back the funk groovement, and I love everything about what she stands for!”

—Bootsy Collins

Her talent caught the attention of Fender early on, earning her an artist endorsement thanks to her standout voice and bass chops. She now also partners with brands like Rockstar Energy, Audemars Piguet, James Allen Diamonds, Vanderhall, Roland, and more.

In addition to her work as a recording artist and performer, Nik is the visionary behind Bass Domination—a course and community empowering beginner bassists through self-esteem, discipline, and musical confidence.
